The roof-scape of this typical east-London terraced street reads as a series of butterfly roofs against the profile of the main houses. Our design for the replacement of the single-storey return proposes a new, formal mutation to the language of this roof-scape; a design that twists in plan and section to face the sun.
Internally, a timber lining wraps around the underside of the new projecting roof to define the perimeter of the new enclosure, the concrete worktop in the kitchen becomes a raised planter externally and defines the length of the plot whilst the glazed brick wall separates the hard and soft landscaping.
