The Billboard Lab is a portable multi-media studio contained within a converted shipping container – ‘a hub for young people to become involvement in the regeneration of their towns and cities as part of the Thames Gateway Development’. To assemble, the container slides apart to reveal a fully-functioning professional filming suite with editing facilities and a separate diary room. We designed and co-ordinated the fit-out and furniture for the unit.
The rubberised colour floor was designed to provide a strong graphic identity to the compact but well organised spaces as well as indicate the intended circulation routes. The 24 ‘liquorice’ stools were developed with product designers, Blend Studios and were made from expanded polypropylene. These are hard-wearing enough to be stacked and re-stacked in many configurations but light enough to easily assemble and to transport.
