Dating from the 1930s, we were commissioned to refurbish the internal common parts of the 6 blocks that form this 61-apartment complex in St John’s Wood. We considered our design as an extension of the block’s original art-deco aspirations. Our proposal consisted of a bespoke design for the carpets and stone cutting that echoed the patterns and forms of art deco motifs to infer movement throughout the blocks.
Using a traditional palette of reds, browns and yellows on the carpets, the colours used become slightly lighter from one floor to the next to reflect the decreasing level of foot-fall towards the top of the building. The project also included the overhaul of the lifts, external lighting, all internal surfaces, ironmongery and signage. The refurbishment added significantly to the look and feel of the apartment block.
