A nice little Q&A with Nick & Jon in the December issue of Enki.

Showcasing recent education and residential projects: all of them exploring ideas of materiality and nature, and domesticity and play.

Also at the end of December, we were appointed on an exciting new community/ heritage project in Lostwithiel, Cornwall following an open tender.

We are now working with Lostwithiel’s Town Team to find new community uses for their 16-Century Taprell House and 17-Century Edgcumbe House (both Grade II* listed).

Our appointment will look at how the buildings might become a sustainably community asset for the town. We will be working with the local community over the next few months to find out what they feel the possible futures for these heritage assets might be.

Any ideas – lets us know!

Already lots to talk about…

We start off with news from the end of December that our Edith Neville Primary School has been long-listed for the RIBA Journal MacEwan Award. The award recognises socially-aware architecture for the ‘common good’.

The design is based on a shared ‘manifesto’ for the school that evolved from a detailed consultation and co-design process undertaken between the school community, Camden Council and ourselves. The manifesto established the project’s key objectives and a vision for the educational environment and social impact. The manifesto covered subjects such as ‘pedagogy’, ‘nature’, ‘community’ and ‘well-being’: defining and expressing the school’s ethos, community outlook and intended social value.

These photographs show some of the pupils at the school presenting the school values – independence, creativity, empathy, perseverance – in their new school setting.

Our STEM lab for Torriano Primary School made the shortlist in 2020 – fingers crossed for Edith Neville…!
