New Homes for Neighbourhoods

Portfolio: New Homes for Neighbourhoods, Brighton: Our shortlisted competition proposal for 5 new homes creates a ‘convivial community’ – one that is organised around a series of ‘formal’ and ‘informal’ shared community spaces for residents to share and enjoy. Using the language of Brighton’s indigenous sub-strata, the design of the houses is conceived as a series of irregularly-shaped ‘Chalk Hats’ that sit sculpturally on the site. #brighton #brightonandhovecitycouncil #newhomes #newhomesforneighbourhoods #chalkhats #affordablehousing #community #infill #housing #hayhurstandco #architecture #competition

Hairy House

Hairy House: Named because of the wildflower turf roof, Hairy House is an extension to a Victorian end of terrace house in Hammersmith that provides a new kitchen, dining area and family space. #oldiebutagoodie #tbt #hayhurstandco #hairyhouse #ribanationalaward #greenroof #wildflowerroof #slate photo: @kilianosullivan

Pegasus Academy

Portfolio: The remodelling and expansion of Pegasus Academy builds on the character of the existing Victorian school buildings. Our design brings together a fragmented site with a series of interventions and extensions that thread new teaching spaces through a complex fabric of existing buildings. #pegasusacademytrust #civictrustawards2015 #ribaawards2014 #ajretrofitawardswinner #fbf #hayhurstandco #archive

Langley Vale Visitor Hub

Portfolio: Our competition entry for Langley Vale Visitor Hub. Within its ancient, down-land setting, the proposal provides a new visitor’s hub as part of a ‘convivial landscape’ that provides activity spaces for the local community, enthusiasts and children to share and enjoy. The building is organised as three distinct elements each forming a specific function: the hall, the entrance and the support spaces. Each element has its own thatched roof profile which is similar in scale to the canopy of the adjacent trees. #langleyvale #riba @ribacomps #competition #hayhurstandco #thatch
