This commission comprised the re-modelling of two, double-height, Victorian classrooms at a primary school in Thornton Heath, south London. A number of post-war extensions had left this original Victorian wing almost building-locked and with barely any sources of natural light or ventilation.
Our design for the school sought to maximise the impact of new skylights and provide new artificial lights to provide an airy and dynamic pupil foyer in the middle of the school. Small, slot-shaped skylights with deep shafts were used to get light into offices and large, simple shaped lights into circulation areas.
